And here they sprout! One of Europe’s favourites regarding the heavy psych scene, Madmess are back on track(s) w/ a blossom release foreshadowing their 3rd and latest record. “The Third Coming” is available via Glory or Death (USA), Kozmik Artifactz (EU) and gig.ROCKS! (PT) “She came to me in a dream. The wound... it is sacred.” Not the most original phrase to quote but whose origin is definitely peculiar (to say the least), there’s always a mix of mysticism and smooth talk coming out of der Bunker’s Mother, and even more to relate with Madmess’ prophetic path as a new chapter arises. Just like the character taken from Nikias Chryssos’ latest (and weirdest) film, the portuguese three-piece already had “her cocktail” in everything that surrounds their sound: nurturing yet dominant rock’n’roll songs; protective in form, but also castrating when the jam must take the structure apart; and mixture of sacred and grotesque, like both could cohabit somewhere in a witchy lover forest in Northern Portugal. Here’s the band’s fingerprint, now decaled in bold with their newest record “The Third Coming”, a smooth journey where almost every element of modern psychedelia took a ride. An itinerary throughout the history of rock (the one that actually “Burnt!”) where those gorgeous early days from Supertramp - as well as some mandatory Zeppelin, Sabbath or Floyd influences - meet that stoner rock riffage we will all die listening to. Following two singles previously unveiled, as “Velvet Nebuta” and “Hazy Morning” already had given a glimpse of a laid-back approach towards classic rock, “The Third Coming” is 36 minutes length wax where psychedelic riffage remains the bread and butter of a never ever chameleonic band who, of course, explores boundaries within their own music but stays faithful to what “own music” really means. No fear to go along a krautrock driven track like “Sauerkraut” or to add that Bonham sugar to “Widowmaker” (not to say throughout the whole record) but, at the end, it still sounds and shouts Madmess all the way. They already have their wounds and battle scars… let’s keep them warm and sacred.
