Description:

Monk is an instrumental doom rock trio from Piskopio, Syros Island, Greece, formed in the summer of 2011. The band consists of JR (guitars, effects), Woodman (bass) and Mushroom (drums, synth). Monk are well known for their hypnotic and intense live shows and have shared the stage with many greek underground bands such as Last Rizla, Sadhus (The Smoking Community), Bad Trip, Korsikov, 45Rats and more. Their first demo, “Ofis, the Saint Eater”, was released in 2012 in 100 CD-R copies and was distributed for free at shows. Their debut album, “Black Earth Beneath”, was released through Fuzz Ink. Records(FZZ003) on October 9, 2016. Monk invited long time friend and soundlord, Vaggelis Apostolou, to produce and record the album in the band’s own studio/temple at Piskopio — a way to capture the true essence of Monk’s ritualistic sound. The cover was designed by Julio Sanka, the layout of the CD by Stergios Tsiamis and photos by Marianna Roussou. The last track of the album (“Zoltan Hypnotic Power”) features Yajam on saxophone. The release of “Black Earth Beneath” was followed by a mini greek tour along label mates Korsikov. Limited edition of 500 CDs in custom paper sleeves.
