With Above becomes Below, Wild Eyes have matured enough to bring a much more measured sensibility to their approach. That’s not to say they have lost their youthful vigor, in fact it’s much stronger now. There is a sense of having settled into their sound and the future now looks wide open. From the opening riff of ‘Stiff Nights’ it’s immediately obvious that Wild Eyes will stop at nothing to get your attention. An almost perfect album breaker, this then gets even better with the sleazy ‘Snakey Lady’ which demonstrates their ability to cut loose and jam. It’s a complete retro throwback but then they are hardly trying to re-invent the wheel.
