Description:

Recorded in three days to tape at The Cowshed Studios in North London in early 2021 the album wiretaps the colder veins of 60s and 70s crime soundtracks, weaving tense cinematic atmospheres, hypnotic kraut-isms, and swirling psychedelic funk. Initially influenced by the widescreen aesthetics of Roy Budd, Heliocentrics, John Cameron, Tortoise, DJ Krush, Can, and 23 Skidoo, the album was spontaneously composed, taking many unexpected paths yet creating a cohesive aesthetic throughout."This was an album that I've intended to record for a decade, but life never afforded me the time to do so. Events in recent history gave me the chance to assemble the musicians needed to get the project going. There was no writing involved as such: the music was woven around the drums, leading us down some unexpected paths. We also purposefully avoided using too much multi-tracking, as we didn't want to end up in a quagmire of decisions and endless revisions, so the entire thing took less than a week". Formed in 2021 by Matthew Rozeik from London experimental duo Necro Deathmort, The Cortina Protocol explores the darker side of cinematic noir. Featuring a fluid cast of like-minded musicians, their debut self-titled album is the first of many deep explorations.
